In a latest suicide car bomb in the capital Mogadishu, at least two civilians were killed when the suicide bomber detonated explosive materials fitted on a car at the busy Banadir junction in Mogadishu where the military convoy of AU forces was passing by at the time of the unfortunate incident.
Its clear that that the main target of the attack was the AU convoy but innocent civilians were caught up in the heinous blast. Corresponding reports indicate that the blast happened shortly after the convoy had passed. Two civilians were killed on the spot and several others were wounded.
The AU convoy was from Baidoa in the outskirts of the capital Mogadishu. There is a Somali National Army Base within the vicinity of the area where the explosion took place meaning the Somali military operated base could as well have been a target.
The AU forces have been assisting Somali National Army in the fight against Al-Shabaab and have often been targeted by the militants. The militants control large swathes of rural central and southern Somalia. Suicide bombing, especially in the capital are associated with the Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab.
