Somalia security forces on Sunday 23rd August 2015 foiled an Al Shabaab attack on a remote village in Lower Shabelle region.
In the operation deemed to secure the area, a number of Al Shabaab fighters were arrested.
According to Governor Abdikadir Mohamed Nur Siidii, the militants had ambushed Mareerey, a small village outside Afgooye town but the security forces manage to thwart the militants’ plans.
Governor Sidii also added that the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) reinforcement made it possible to foil the terrorist attack. A number of the fighters are now he jail. The attack was a very planned by Al-Shabaab but prior information was received by NISA.
Also local resident confirmed on the Sunday incident citing that the Al Shabaab militants on Sunday after had took control of villages near Mareerey but they were repulsed by the security forces.
Later through their propaganda website, Al-Shabaab claimed its fighters scaled up operation on Mogadishu suburbs.
