Somalia military court on Saturday, 28th November 2020 handed a death penalty to three Al-Shabaab militants linked with several terror-related incents in the Horn of Africa country.
The Somali military court handed them a death sentence by firing squad in the capital Mogadishu after they were convicted of terror charges in the country, especially where they had targeted security forces from which the country’s military is on the frontline.
Among those killed was Mohamed Ahmed alias IIka Isse, who was a college teacher before turning into being Al-Shabaab’s assassin. Isse was responsible for the numerous of assassinations including 3 army officers, two police officials, and a prosecutor in Mogadishu. He was convicted last year in Mogadishu. Also executed included Ahmed Mohamed Hashim and Salim after being found guilty of series of killings in the Somali capital.
Somalia military court has over the years tried and convicted several members of Al-Shabaab and other militias. Earlier in the past week, six people who were convicted of murder were executed in the semi-autonomous Somaliland, a move that has rattled the European Union. Subsequently, these executions could raise questions about Somalia’s respect for the rule of law and the constitution.
