Somali National Army (SNA) Receives Equipment from AMISOM

Somali National Army has received an assortment of items from AMISOM in an effort to up its security operations.

The military equipment were donated by Chinese government to AMISOM which in turn handed over to the Somali Chief of Defence Forces, Maj. Gen. Mohamed Ahmed Jimaale.

Ambassador Francisco Caetano Madeira, the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia, in Mogadishu, was present at the handover ceremony.

Among the items handed over include, three mobile kitchen units with a combined capacity to cook for 600 soldiers. Other items include sleeping bags, mosquito nets, non-metallic bullet-proof helmets and tents; and will be particularly useful to SNA troops in the Forward Operating Bases.

Ambassador Madeira took time to thank the Chinese government for supporting SNA and AMISOM operations saying the donation will go a long way in alleviating the conditions of work, the conditions of operations.

On his part, SNA’s Maj. Gen. Jimaale said the equipment would go a long way to improve the living conditions of the SNA soldiers, in their bases.

This is very good equipment for the Somali National Army. We were in dire need of such equipment, the SNA Chief of Defence Forces said.
