Somali National Army (SNA) Averts Major Attack as 2 Explosive Laden Vehicles Destroyed Near Afgoye Town

The Somali National Army (SNA) on Tuesday, 13th February 2018 destroyed two vehicles carrying IEDs in Mubarak village near Lower Shebelle’s Afgoye town.

According to SNA Commander Abdullahi Ali Anod, the two vehicles that were thought to be on their way to Mogadishu.

Following on intelligence tip-off, the vehicles were successfully intercepted and destroyed by the SNA.

The Commander added that the military recovered different types of IEDs, ammunition, large quantity of fuel, military uniforms and other tools.

Separately, the US-backed SNA launched an operation on Al-Shabaab controlled areas near Afgoye on Monday capturing Mubarak and Awdhegle villages from the Al-Qaeda linked fighters in Somalia.

Monday’s military operation covered a large area.  According to Lower Shabelle region’s Deputy Governor Abdifatah Haji Abdulle, the suburbs of Qoryoley town  witnessed the wrath of the operation that saw several Al-Shabaab illegal checkpoints destroyed.
