EVENT SUMMARY
On Tuesday 16th August 2016, U.S, military spokesman– Lt. Commander. Anthony Falvo clarified on military operation that involved Somali Commandos and the U.S. forces last week.
A contingent of U.S. Elite forces assisted Somali Commandos in killing Al-Shabaab militants in raids which were conducted on Wednesday 10th August 2016.
The Elite American forces acting as military advisers accompanied Somali Commandos (U.S.-trained Danab) in an assault targeting an Al-Shabaab checkpoint in Saakow, Middle Jubba of southern Somalia.
The joint military operation targeted a high level meeting in the militant’s safe-house in Saakow FOB. Believed to be in attendance included high ranking commanders and the militants’ Shura Council.
As the Somali and U.S. led force approached the FOB, a remote checkpoint, the Al-Shabaab troops manning the outpost opened fire and gun battle ensued.
Lt. Commander.Anthony Falvo, the spokesman for the United States military’s Africa Command confirmed several militants were killed without disclosing the ranks of the militants killed.
According to commander Falvo, the American military is still assessing the BDA results from the operation and will issue a press release once they ascertain the raid outcomes.
The Somali news media reported that a second raid was conducted in Saakow on Saturday involving Somali Commandos in Saakow that high ranking Al-Shabaab commanders including the militant group’s spokesman, three deputies to the Al-Shabaab leader alongside 30 fighters were killed while in a meeting.
