Somali military has confirmed that it army forces successfully repulsed an Al-Shabaab attack targeting one of their Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Barire town, some 60kilometers west of Somali capital, Mogadishu.
The fierce fire fight erupted after the Al-Qaeda affiliated Al- Shabaab fighters attempted to breach into an SNA army base in the town. The Somali military sources say 14 militants were killed in that clash.
There was no immediate comment from Al-Shabaab over the reports.
The Al-Qaeda branch in Somalia continues to hold small pockets of rural areas in central and southern Somalia.
