Somali National Army (SNA) and AMISOM troops over the weekend conducted a joint operation the town of Jalalaqsi in central Somalia and killed a senior Al-Shabaab operative.
According to Mohamad Nur Caga Jof, governor of Jalalaqsi, the intelligence-led operation was a success. He confirmed that the joint forces killed one senior militant responsible for forcible collection of zakat in Jalalaqsi. The operation also saw one vehicle used by militants being destroyed.
Somali national forces backed by African Union Mission in Somalia have intensified counterterrorism operations in central and southern Somalia, in a renewed onslaught to flush out Al-Qaeda linked group from these regions.
