Somali National Army (SNA) repulsed an Al-Shabaab attack in Awdinle town of Bay region and killed five militants.
Local sources also reported of the terror incident in Awdinle town. Awdinle administrator, Ibrahim Mohamed Nur confirmed the of the attack saying five militants were neutralized and several other fighters were wounded during the raid.
The troops repulsed the attack launched by the militants on the bases of the troops that has been on the increase in south and central Somalia.
Several attempts by the group to retake the strategic town didn’t succeed as joint SNA and Southwest regional forces pushed them back.
Al-Shabaab has stepped up attacks against Somali armed forces and it ally troops since an offensive by the joint forces recaptured several key areas previously controlled by the group mainly in the Lower Shabelle and Lower Juba regions.
The attack also comes days after five people were killed and scores others wounded in an IED blast in a restaurant in Baidoa, the interim administrative capital of Southwest on Saturday.
