The Somali National Army (SNA) on Sunday handed over weapons that were recovered from the scene of the Ambush of Burundi convoy, north of Balad town.
Last week Friday, the Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab militants attacked a convoy of AMISOM military vehicles escorting trucks that were delivering food supplies to a military base in Middle Shabelle region.
Using RPGs, the militants destroyed the trucks and subsequently some Burundi soldiers perished from the attack.
Burundi said five of its soldiers were killed while militant group has claimed to have killed over 50 soldiers.
Present at the handover weaponry including machine guns and ammunition in Jowhar was Hirshabelle State President Mohamed Abdi Ware, SNA Commander Mohamud Ma’alin Koronto, and the Jowhar Somali Police Commander and AMISOM commanders.
Ware submitted a letter of condolences to the Burundi AMISOM commanders present
AMISOM commanders commended the SNA bravery and asked for cooperation with Hirshabelle leadership.
