Somali National Army (SNA) has arrested two al Shabaab militants during a comprehensive operation in Awdhegle area in Lower Shabelle Region.
Intelligence officials have identified the two as Abdikarim Abu Hamza, a finance officer in Lower Shabelle and Banadir regions and Sheikh Mudey who runs Al-Shabaab intelligence cells (Amniyat) in the mentioned regions.
The arrest of the two officers is in league with the SNA efforts to paralyze the entire al Shabaab network in the region. In recent weeks the SNA has launched a crackdown on the financiers and enablers of the al Shabaab which wishes to topple the Western-backed government and implement sharia law in Somalia.
