SNA and AMISOM troops continues on an operation aimed at clearing roadblocks, IEDs planted by Al-Shabaab militants in Somali’s southern Lower Shabelle region.
According to AMISOM, the mine clearance operation began on Thursday on the main roads that links Qoryoley town to nearby Janaale and Beled-Amin villages in Lower Shabelle region.
AMISOM command said the operation will continue despite Al-Shabaab resistance until all IEDs are cleared from the roads.
On Friday, AMISOM troops from sector 1 (UPDF) and SNA clashed with Al-Shabaab militants on the road between Buufow and Janaale. Fierce fight erupted with Al-Shabaab recording significant losses.
The allied forces have so far cleared the stretch of the road from Beldamine-Qoryooley and Shalamboti. UPDF sector 1 troops now clearing Buufow- Janaale Road where Al Shabaab are trying to put up resistance, but with no luck.
Al-Shabaab militant group has in the recent few weeks suffered huge losses and have turned to planting IEDs to deter AMISOM and SNA movements. The militant continues to lose ground in Somalia resulting to propaganda and lies in a desperate move to instill fear to the public.
The allied troops continues to hunt down the militants from their hideouts and with time the Somalia based Al-Shabaab will completely be degraded.
