
MOGADISHU,8th February 2016, in the latest military developments, Somali National Army (SNA) supported by AMISOM troops dislodged Al-Shabaab terrorists out of the key port town of Marka.
The dawn military operations saw Al-Shabaab militants being driven out from the strategic port town after fierce gun battle with soldiers from from Somalia national army and the African Union member states, military officials confirmed to reporters.
According to Mohamed Osman Yarisow, an administrator in Shabelle region, southern Somalia, Marka town is in full control of the legitimate government.
“Our troops and those from the African Union member states had not withdrawn from the town and only engaged in a tactical retreat to enable them to fight the militants effectively,”added Yarisow.
The militants on Friday boasted to have taken over Marka towm after tactical withdrawal of AU peacekeepers.
During the Saturday dawn raid, Al-Shabaab were inflicted heavy losses. AMISOM also conducted mop-up operations in Bufoow area outside Marka.
The port town of Marka was first liberated from Al-Shabaab in 2012.
