February 8th 2016: Somali’s resident Hassan Sheikh called upon lawmakers and other government officials to shun from releasing arrested al Shabaab terrorist from prisons. He said this speaking to Somali parliament on Sunday stating that the lack of collaboration between the lawmakers and law enforcers is strengthening the loopholes that allow the militants to go unpunished for their crimes.
“Security of the country will not be handled if officials don’t stop defending and releasing the jailed Al Shabaab elements. Let the security agencies do their job,” said president Mohamud.
He condemned the federal government officials who undermine security by letting the al Shabaab fighters free without allowing for the legally stipulated time to conduct investigations.
Al Shabaab has been exploiting some of the loopholes within the country’s judicial and law enforcement system to advance their agenda and go unpunished.
Somalia is adopting stringent security laws like her neighbors Kenya and Uganda to tackle the militants not only on the battle front but also ensure those arrested are punished for the crimes they commit.
