Intelligence reports say that there are higher tensions in Bulo-Gadud and Bar-Sanguni areas near Kismayo in Somalia as Somali National Army and allied AMISOM troops move closer to the al Shabaab stronghold. The areas have been under al Shabaab control and as such the presence of the government forces has sent panic to the militants who have been losing major ground in the recent months.
The development came following an airstrike by the U.S. warplanes against Al-Shabab bases in Bar-Sanguni, located about 45Km north of Kismayo city on Wednesday. Villagers have said that some of the al Shabaab militants have been fleeing the region. The increased pressure being exerted on the militants since the beginning of the year has caused friction within the group’s ranks resulting in defections.
AMISOM, SNA and the US command in Somalia vowed cooperation has increased the success rates of the offensives, enhanced stability and averted would-be deadly attack in major towns in Somalia.
