March 22, 2016: a senior al Shabaab commander was arrested in Diinsoor, Bay Region by the Interim Southwest Administration in a recent wave of security sweeps in the area.
The commander whose name was only released as Marorow who is an elderly man is in police custody in the region. Marorow has been previously arrested for spy for the al Shabaab in the town but was released after he relinquished all ties with al Shabaab militants.
He was arrested after a comprehensive intelligence gathering by the South West State of Somalia troops ascertaining that he was back to his old ways of spying for the al Shabaab militants in the town. The intelligence that Marorow as relayed to the al Shabaab has been used to orchestrate attacks both on civilians and security troops operating in the area.
The troops of the South west state of Somalia have been conducting security operations in the southern town of Diinsoor to flush out Al Shabaab remnants as intelligence reports show that that militants are retreating from their strongholds in the South and central Somalia owing to increased onslaught against them backed by inadequate food, water and medical supplies.
