Military reports from Jubbaland headquarters Kismayo indicate that new security forces have been deployed in an effort to bolster security in the town ahead of the elections.
At least one hundred army soldiers led by Ismail Saxaradid, a former commander of the 43rd Division have been deployed to beef up security at the strategic Kismayo town. Ismail Saxaradid is in charge of the Jubbaland election security forces stationed in Kismayo.
Additionally, police forces who have routinely been patrolling and monitoring all vehicles passing the main roads in the town continue to monitor security and install checkpoints.
Security in Kismayo has been beefed up citing that the Al-Qaeda affiliate Al-Shabaab have been against elections in Somalia regions and states.
Also, security has been beefed citing the importance of Kismayo in terms of economics. Al-Shabaab has been fighting in an effort to regain control of the strategic port town.
Recently, Shabaab conducted an attack that targeted presidency, tribal elders, journalists and civilians at Asassey Hotel at the centre of Kismayo town.
