
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud lauded Burundi’s contribution towards seeing a stable Somalia.
Somali’s president was speaking after hosting first vice president of Burundi Gaston Sindimwo who was on a two day state visit in Somalia.
Sindimwo was received by Sheikh on Wednesday 16th March 2016. Somali president said Burundi will go in history as one of the countries who stood with Somalia at time is battling with challenge of Al-Shabaab insurgents.
The Somali president expressed confident that the war against Al-Shabaab will be won. He also expressed confidence that Burundi government will find a lasting solution to the political turmoil threatening to tear the country adding dialogue as the best way to solve such conflicts.
“One of the key objectives of our meeting is form a steering committee that will oversee implementation of bilateral agreements signed by our two countries” he said.
Somalia and Burundi are expected to collaborate in the fields of security, education, agriculture, infrastructure and trade among other areas

Burundi also promised to train Somali police force. Burundi is a troop’s contributor of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM). Other countries contributing force in Somalia include Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Uganda.
Burundi troops continues battling Al-Shabaab, despite encountering losses from the AlQaeda affiliated group when they breached its Leego forward base, where more that 50 soldiers were killed.
