March 18, 2016: Russia is set to deliver 40 Mi-28NE attack helicopters to Algeria as stipulated in a bilateral contract between the two countries.
The announcement comes barely a few hours after militants used rocket-propelled grenades to attack a gas plant in Algeria which fortunately didn’t have any casualties.
Mi-28 helicopter dubbed the ‘Night Hunter’ in Russian military front is among the best of its kind and is suitable for daytime mission; night times and has improved adverse weather conditions adaptability capability.
Mi-28NE modification is equipped with dual-control system allowing it to be flown from both the pilot’s and operator/instructors cockpit ensuring that incase of the injury of either of the two the helicopter will still fly. The fleet will increase Algeria's capabilities in the air offensive as the region is faced with new threats from ISIS that have found a haven in Libya as well as the Al Qaeda in the Maghreb (AQIM).
