
June 17, 2016, Police in Mombasa shot dead a gang member of the dreaded Wakali Kwanza that is threatening the peace of residents of Kisauni.
According to County police boss, Francis Wanjohi, police acting on a tip-off on Wednesday night raided the gang joint in Kisauni killing one member and arresting seven others.
"Members of the public have been complaining about the gang attacking motorists and stealing from residents. We are glad they were arrested," Wanjohi said.
The county boss told press on Thursday that investigation to apprehend those who escaped still underway.
Mombasa county commissioner Nelson Marwa set up a multi-agency team tasked to crack down on the knife-wielding gang that had been attacking beach-goers and residents.
Marwa directed his team to deal with crime and terror-related incidents in the county.
