Police in Malaba and Busia border towns arrested two Sheikhs over a series of armed robberies.
Confirming on the incident, Bukedi Region police spokesperson Sowali Kamulya said operation was conducted by Flying Squad.
The suspects were during a crackdown on armed robbers operating across the Kenya-Uganda border, especially, Busia and Malaba border towns.
Kamulya added that the two Sheikhs were arrested following intelligence information that they were playing a leading role in the series of robberies that have hit Busia and Malaba border towns recently.
Intelligence provided showed that the two Sheikhs also had colleagues, whom they are believed to conduct illegal dealings, across the border in Kenya.
During the raid, two bullets were reportedly recovered during the arrest of one of the Sheikhs.
There have been increased incidences of related crimes on and across the two border towns.
Police in the two districts of Tororo and Busia have registered 82 robbery cases and the majority were committed in this area.
