British oil company,Ophir Energy Plc has raised 20 billion shillings to drill oil in Kenya and Tanzania after Tullow oil and Africa oil discovered high quality oil in Kenya’s Turkana County.
Africa-focused oil and gas firm Ophir Energy Plc plans to acquire more oil exploration blocks in Kenya which now has become a hotbed for oil exploration.
Ophir Energy Plc oil blocks in Kenya include a 60 percent stake in Kenya’s Block L9, where it is at present acquiring 3D seismic data, and owns 100 percent of Block L15.
Ophir Energy closed a $240 million (Sh20 billion) fund-raising campaign at the London Stock Exchange weeks before oil was discovered in Kenya, meaning it had intelligence Kenya would pay off as an exploration base.
Ophir Energy Plc is supported by Indian steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal. The company has oil exploration deals and assets in Somaliland and Madagascar besides other regions of Africa including Gabon.
