A senior Al-Shabaab commander was killed in military operation conducted in Lower Shabelle region of Somalia.
AMISOM troops backed Danab Special Forces raided the house of Mu’ad Dhere, killing him alongside 10 other militants, believed were his bodyguards.
Mu’ad Dhere was killed at his house in Sablale, Lower Shabelle in an intelligence led military operation just days after another high-ranking Al-Shabaab figure identified as Abdullahi Osman alias Dhaga-Adde, who was in charge of media was killed during a covert operation by Somali Special Forces in the Middle Jubba region, southern Somalia.
The killing of Mu’ad Dhere is a huge blow to the Al-Qaeda aligned Al-Shabaab as he become the latest Al-Shabaab commander to be killed within this year. In August, military forces killed Abdulkadir Commandos, another notorious Al-Shabaab commander within Lower Shebelle, a region that is prone to frequent Al-Shabaab raids.
The Al-Shabaab militants still remain a major threat in Somalia’s quest for stability persistently fighting over the control of localities, villages and towns in the vast central and southern regions of Somalia.
