
The 18th meeting by Military Operations Coordination Committee (MOCC) for the African Union (AU) peace support operations convened in Addis Ababa was aimed at assessing AU mission in Somalia.
The convention was chaired by AU Commissioner for Peace Security, Ambassador Smaïl Chergui and attended by Chiefs of Defense Staff (CDS) of AMISOM Troop Contributing Countries (Burundi, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda).
The meeting also had representatives of partner countries and institutions (the United Kingdom, the United States of America, the European Union and the United Nations).
The meeting provided a platform to exchange views on the mission situation in Somalia, update and progress made on implementation of outcomes of Djibouti Summit.
MOCC maintained the need for better coordination of troops battling Al-Shabaab in Somalia in support of the upcoming elections in Somalia.
MOCC appreciated role played by Army troops and Police contingents supporting Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) towards the achievement of the political process in Somalia.
MOCC also appreciated AMISOM, UN and other partner’s support in the difficult mission in Somalia.
They called on the need for concerted effort in mobilizing financial support to address the financing gap faced by AMISOM in articulating the war logistics.
