
Libyan forces continue to make gains against the Islamic State (IS) in the Libya’s city of Sirte.
On Wednesday 10th August 2016, the forces reportedly gained control of a large convention center used as a base by the IS insurgents.
Briefing the media, Libyan spokesperson Rida Issa confirmed of the forces latest gains saying they are in control of the whole Ouagadougou convention center – they even advanced some distance beyond the complex, he added.
Apart from capturing the convention center, the forces also regained control of Sirte’s hospital and a university complex from the Islamic State insurgents.
Libyan forces backed by allied forces launched offensive to retake Sirte, the IS-stronghold on May 12, 2015.
With strong resistance from the Islamic State jihadists, they managed to enter the IS held town on June 9, 2016 a year after.
Islamic State fighters in Sirte have been recording combat losses to forces allied to the internationally recognized government based in Tripoli and with this momentum they will completely be edged out.
