Kenya security teams have been lauded for swift action in responding to recent Al-Shabaab attack in Kobolo, near El-Wak Mandera.
Joint task force drawn from the Rapid Response team, Kenya Police, Administration Police , Anti-terror Police (ATPU) and other special units responded to the Somali-based Al-Shabaab terrorists killing four of their members who were about to conduct an attack against specific high value targets including the El-Wak Police camps.
The teams neutralized the four members of a terror cell, recovered weapons and ammunition in one of the most successful intelligence led operation in Mandera, a county that severally targeted by the Islamist terrorists from Somalia.
The joint teams overpowered a group of 20 other militants who fled to Somalia. Police recovered 90 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, one pocket phone, 4 magazines for AK-47 rifles, 5 mobile phones, SNA military jungle jackets, 1000 Kenya Shillings note, and 3-litre capacity jerry cans of water.
The successful operation was made possible by intelligence shared among the security forces who in turn swiftly responded preempting the threat.
Local community also called to collaborate by providing security agents with information (HUMINT) and not to hide terrorists amongst themselves.
