A Kenyan man believed to be a member of al-Qaeda affiliated terror organization headquartered in Somalia has been arrested in the Philippines. The suspected terrorist was arrested at a hotel in Iba, Zambales.
The Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group identified the suspect as Cholo Abdi Abdullah. Seized from the suspect were a 9-mm pistol, magazine and ammunition, one unit of an improvised explosive device, a hand grenade, and other bomb-making components.
Cholo Abdi is said to have pledged allegiance to al Shabaab in 2012 and has since been active in the group’s activities in the East African region. Preliminary investigations revealed that Abdullah is studying to be a pilot at All Asia Aviation Academy and is allegedly doing research on different aviation threats, aircraft hijacking and falsifying travel documents.
