Highlights
The ongoing operation Linda Boni at the Kenyan coast has been applauded by various government and private bodies as the best game changer in dealing with the Somali based Harakat Al Shabaab Al Mujahideen.
The National Assembly Defence Committee chairman Ndung’u Gethenji has acclaimed the Linda Boni Operation, saying that his committee will cooperate with the security to ensure the 90- day operation is successful.
The operation is the one of the ways stepped up by security agencies in Kenya to eliminate terrorists from the country’s borders.
Background
On Friday, September 11, 2015 Kenya’s Interior Cabinet Secretary, Maj. Gen. (Rtd.) Joseph Nkaisserry officially launched the initiative in Lamu.
The operation is aimed at securing the vast Boni Forest that is found at the Kenya-Somalia border which has been used as hideout for the Al Shabaab militants using it as a pivot point to access other parts of Kenya.
Militants have in the past carried out attacks on Kenyan soil and found hideouts in the vast forest, creating the illusion that they have crossed over to Somalia. The end of the operation will have netted down close to 400 Al Shabaab militants who have been confirmed to have found comfort inside Boni.
