Thursday, 10th March 2022, the Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab dealt a huge blow after Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) successfully repulsed an organized attack in their operating military base in southern Somalia.
Corresponding reports indicate that KDF team manning Sector II managed to repulse the militants in Hosingow Forward Operating Base (FOB), Lower Juba, southern Somalia which has often been a key target by the Islamist militants.
The reports from authorities further confirmed of the incident and noted that several militants were wounded in the Thursday encounter with KDF, serving under the AMISOM mandate.
The KDF has close to 3,500 soldiers in the AMISOM team who are credited for defeat against Al-Shabaab in many theaters. There is a huge presence of KDF troops in Jubaland who serve in Sectors II and IV of AMISOM.
In another separate joint military operation, at least 10 Al-Shabaab militants were killed and several others injured within the prefecture of Jimame town, Lower Juba region of Somalia.
Despite persistent raids by the Islamist Al-Shabaab in the towns and localities within Juba region, most parts have been liberated from the control of the militants.
