Military Intelligence Officials have dismissed information propagated and disseminated through Twitter, a micro-blogging site claiming that Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) will court martial 96 soldiers who tactically withdrew from the AMSIOM Forward Operating Base (FOB) after they lost tactical advantage and were out gunned.
Military Intelligence officials referred the rumors as contemptuous. "That information is just a rumor. Nothing of the sort is happening or will happen. It should be treated with the contempt it deserves alongside the source"
KDF-FOB under AMISOM in El-Adde with approximately 187 freshly deployed soldiers was attacked mid-January 2016 by over 400 terrorists. Soldiers held the base for over 8 hours then tactically withdrew after they were outnumbered and lost tactical advantage.
Rumor mills claimed that the 96 soldiers would be court martialed while their 11 formation commander’s wouldn’t be punished. This was intended to cause harm in the force. It is an attack on KDF as a professional force.
Military Intelligence officials find the claim as alarming and ill intended since it is meant to cause divisions between soldiers and officers. This is very dangerous. KDF is a disciplined force, it's highly reputed, dependable, reliable, and highly capable. People may want to harm the institution.
