Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) is among the top most and capable armies in the world. The global index and ranking of its military strength especially in Africa continues to rise significantly.
Comprising of Kenya army, Kenya air force and Kenya Navy, the army has a well-organized commanding structure and ranks with the senior most officer being the Chief of General Staff (CGS) – General Julius Waweru Karangi. Though it is a smaller force as compared to others in Africa, Kenya’s military has be actively involved in peace keeping missions due to the nation’s strategic location and the army capabilities in terms of modern equipment coming as a key factor.
Kenya Defence Forces has a budget of around $800 million, with major suppliers of its being the Unite States. According to global Firepower, Kenya military have modern equipment. With 591 Armored Fighting Vehicles, 25 Towed-Artillery, Self-Propelled Guns,186 tanks, 78 helicopters, 148 aircrafts, and 12 rocket projectors besides other naval submarines, frigates, patrol crafts, destroyers and corvettes.
Kenya Defence Forces alongside Somali’s military have joined hand with African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) to fight war on Al-shabaab that has been a major threat to the country’s security.
Despite the challenges that Al-shabaab insurgency group pose to Kenya and her neighboring countries, Kenya Defence Forces is determine to loot the militant group from Somalia and secure her country.
