Kenya’s military, particularly, the air force and navy require upgrades as the level of threats has increased in the recent past.
Kenya remains the top military force in East and Central Africa (see http://articles.janes.com/extracts/extract/cafrsu/kenys120.html), however, the country either has shown little effort to retain the position or has no budget provisions to up its military strength.
Increase in level of threat and Geopolitics determine the need to upgrade military strengths which involves both personnel and warfare-equipment.
Somalia ( see https://medalisecurity.com/?p=620 ), Uganda, Ethiopia, and Sudan (see https://medalisecurity.com/?p=123) are posing significant defense worries to Kenya for varied reasons.
Contracting firms to upgrade fleets falls short of desired counter measures to such high levels of defense threats.
Rearming adequately and equipping the air force properly will go a long way to help Kenya remain significantly safe from neighborly aggression.
Kenya risks significantly losing ground to Ethiopia and Uganda who look more aggressive in their expansionist initiatives.
