Kenya Air-Force (Kenya Defense Forces) conducted airstrike Sunday in Gedo, South West of Somalia killing Al Shabaab top commander Yusuf Hajji.
Air force jets conducted surgical strikes against a forward base for the Harakat Shabaab al-Mujahideen Movement, Al-Qaeda’s branch in Somalia’s South West region of Gedo.
In the joint task force operation involving Somali National Army, dozens of Al Shabaab militants were killed and some leaders taken alive.
The operation was military raid on the terror groups forward base. It was intelligence led, and the target was to cripple and decommission the capability of Al Shabaab command in the region.
Intelligence shows the base was hosting several key top leaders of the terror group who were planning attacks in Kenya and Somalia.
The Harakat Shabaab al-Mujahideen Movement, Al-Qaeda’s branch in Somalia has suffered setbacks in recent past particularly in Kenya where army troops have robustly neutralized the threat they pose.
