A squad of 10 KDF Special Forces drawn from Special Operations Regiment (SOR) killed 24 Al-Shabaab terrorists in Bilis Qooqani, southern Somalia.
Bilis Qooqaani is a town in the Afmadow district of the Lower Juba region of southern Somalia. The town lies approximately 70 kilometers away from the Kenya-Somali border with an estimated population of around 25,000.
The incident unfolded at around 0000hrs when a group of about 50 Al-Shabaab fighters ambushed the KDF soldiers who had set up a camp for the night in a thicket near the town in readiness to proceed the journey to Afmadow the following morning.
The close quarter battle lasted for about 30 minutes. After the battle, 24 Al-Shabaab fighters lay dead while many others escaped with multiple wounds. KDF seized 25 AK-47 rifles, one PKM machine gun and assorted rounds of ammunition. Three KDF soldiers also sustained some injuries.
