The Kenya Defence Forces have resumed a crackdown on al Shabaab militants along her border with Somalia. The sweep conducted by Kenya’s security officers happened on the outskirts of Beled Hawo town in Gedo region.
The sweep comes barely a day as Kenya plans to open the border point between her and Somalia at Mandera. The border was closed after a series of attacks on security officers in Mandera.
Additionally, the administration of the Gedo region town of BeledHawo on Sunday burnt Khat worth thousands of dollars imported from Kenya after it impounded a vehicle ferrying the stimulant twigs two days after it was ordered the borders closed.
KDF has been patrolling the Beled Hawo since last year to ensure that terrorists do not crossover into Kenya seeing as AMISOM troops have been exerting pressure and killing the militants in different parts of Somalia.
