The Kenya Defense Forces have reported that an operation in pursuit of the Ijara Police Station attackers has resulted in the death of 5 al Shabaab militants near the Kenya-Somalia border. The militants were fleeing Kenya and attempting to gain access to Somalia after the attack on the police station.
KDF spokesman Col. David Obonyo said that explosives being ferried in a stolen land cruiser exploded after the al Shabaab and KDF engaged in a firefight. The KDF overpowered the terrorists killing the five and recovered an assorted cache of material.
Additionally, a motorcycle also suspected to have been stolen in Ijara, five AK 47 rifles, 13 magazines with 370 rounds of ammunition, two grenades, bomb-making materials and personal items were recovered.
