Somalia-based Al Qaeda affiliate, Al Shabaab has executed five of its members for allegedly spying for the Kenyan, Ethiopian, Somalia and United States’ governments. The al Shabaab announced the execution on its Andulas radio station saying that it was carried out a public square in Kuntuwarey town in Lower Shabelle region.
According to witnesses of the executions, the men were tied to poles and shot dead by masked gunmen after a self-proclaimed judge read out their verdict in front of a crowd at the execution ground.
The execution come as the airstrikes and ground campaigns against the terrorists increase. Moreover, the group has been losing its foreign fighter who are being subjected to persecution and other forms of discrimination. The execution of foreign fighters has also negatively impacted on the finances seeing as the foreign sympathizers identify with the plight of the persecute mujahedeen.
