Jubbaland state forces killed six (6) Al-Shabaab militants and injured nine (9) others in an onslaught operation conducted in north of Kismayo town and south of Jamame town.
The state forces captured many villages in those areas, according to Abdi Nur Ibrahim, Jubbaland security forces spokesman.
“Our forces inflicted severe casualties on the militants, killing six of them and injuring nine others. We captured Gubadle, Yeri, Jay, Leri villages,” Ibrahim said, confirming of the Saturday operations against the Al-Qaeda branch in Somalia.
The forces also recovered cache weapons and detained members of the militants who were injured during the operation. The army mounted intensive offensives in Jamame town against the militants and the forces in the town subsequently taking control the town.
On Aug. 21, the state forces killed 11 militants and injured 15 others in Jowhar town in Middle Shabelle region in southern Somalia.
Kismayo and Jamame are both towns in southern Lower Juba province of Somalia. The areas are agriculturally rich and Al-Shabaab attempt to regain control of these two towns citing the economic benefits to the group.
