At least 50 al Qaeda terrorists were killed by United States airstrike in northern Idlib which hit their camp. The attack apparently targeted a gathering of al-Qaeda in Syria leaders from a few different allied factions north of Idlib City.
The missile attack comes as an expected Syria-Russia ceasefire in Idlib province was expected to take effect. The US said that the strike was to protect innocent civilians US citizens and its partners who were being threatened by the al Qaeda terror organization.
Further, the attack is in line with the US vow to prevent al Qaeda from creating a safe haven in Syria to fill the void that was left by the fall of the Islamic State. Al-Qaeda in Syria has small amounts of territory, mostly in Idlib Provence, and lost part of that to the Syrian military over the past week.
