Militants from Abnaa Ul Calipha the official ISIS affiliate in Somalia attacked and killed a district commissioner in the Bari region and reportedly took control of the area. The militants attacked the Ballidhidin district in the Bari region where they gunned down the district commissioner Mohamed Ahmed Mumin.
The terrorists entered the town at night gunning the government official, ransacking government premises before taking over the area. The attack is strategic as it is the first area in years to fall under the control of the militants who have been up to now localized in the Galgala mountains and could go ahead and confirm recent intelligence reports that indicate the group has been expanding and prepping for a slew of attacks.
This being the first area takeover the situation remains a-wait-and-see kind seeing as the locals are quite organized in protecting themselves as well as the Puntland forces which have been tightening the noose on the militancy in the region. However, the attack signifies the resurgence as the group has been playing in the background since the launch of ISCAP in Mozambique and DRC where it acted in an oversight and or mentorship role.
