The Islamic State (IS) in Syria reported Thursday that Islamist fighters targeted coalition aircraft with heavy machine guns in the Kobani countryside.
Questions have come up in the past as to why Kobani, a Syrian town on the edge of a Turkish border is important to IS following the attacks from the Islamist group against Syrian Kurdish fighters.
For a long time, IS has been trying to take over control of Kobani resulting in 186,000 fleeing to Turkey.
Kurdish fighters however said the help of United States had a little impact in the victory against the radical islamists. Kobani locals too thought the US wasn’t helping much.
Despite their defeat, IS still attacks Kobani which is strategically located at the border with Turkey and hopes that if it takes over, it is bound to cement its grip of a long stretch of the Syria-Turkey border.
