Somalia’s ISIS affiliate Abnaa Ul Calipha has pledged its allegiance to the newly announced ISIS caliph. Islamic State Somalia (ISS) posted its message in the official telegram channels following the death of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
ISS leaders posted pictures on Telegram of around a dozen fighters standing among trees, with a caption saying they were pledging allegiance to Al-Quraishi. Quraishi was named as the organization’s leader in an audio message that also confirmed Baghdadi’s death and vowed revenge against the United States. U.S. special forces killed Baghdadi in a raid in northwest Syria.
Recently ISS has appeared docile with subtle activities noted in Golis Mountain region, of Puntland state North-Eastern parts of the country where the group is headquartered. despite releasing videos to woe to Ethiopian jihadis and showing training camps they are yet to resume attacks in any part of the country.
The pledge to Quraishi can be translated to the group is looking to resume activities in Somalia and as such security apparatus in Somalia should exercise extra vigilance seeing as ISIS-Central might implore its affiliates to seek revenge against security targets allied to the United States for the death of their Caliph, al Baghdadi.
