The Congolese and Ugandan armies have called on the Islamic State Central Africa Province (ISCAP) terrorists who are still active in the regions of Beni and Ituri to surrender and lay down their arms.
The spokesperson for the joint Congolese and Ugandan armies’ operations terrorists, Lieutenant-Colonel Mak Hazukay, made the call during the periodical press briefing. He emphasized that both governments have already made significant efforts to end the insurgency and have shown good faith by treating those who surrender or are captured humanely.
Additionally, Hazukay also appealed to the population to welcome and treat ADF fighters who express a desire to surrender humanely. He urged those in the forest to choose between surrendering or facing the consequences, as the army now has the means to deal with them effectively.
The eastern region of DRC has been marred by violence and insurgency which has in the past months drawn the attention of the East African Community. The EAC has deployed troops who are headquartered in Goma and have been focusing on a ceasefire and disarmament of groups especially the M23 that have attacked civilians and captured territory.
