The new police appointments have seen to the appointment of Shadrack Maithya as Garissa County Commander by the Inspector General of police Joseph Boinett.
Also assigned office alongside Shadrack Maithya was Nicholas Maina who was appointed the Garissa county OCPD.
The new appointments come in the wake of the interdiction of nine top police officers from the Northeastern region following the Garissa University College terror attack that left 147 people dead and scores injured.
The Tuesday interdiction was made by Cabinet Secretary for the Interior and National Coordination Joseph Nkaissery who said that the top officers will be investigated for criminal liability over the deaths of 147 people at Garissa University.
A court of inquiry that investigated the police response to the terror attack revealed how the top security bosses left their workstation, despite knowledge of the planned terror attack.
The inquiry revealed that senior command comprising the regional police coordinator, AP commander, OC ATPU and county commissioner were not within the county on the eve of the attack and immediately after the attack.
Culprits of the suspension that led to the appointments by the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett are Earnest Munyi and county commissioner Njenga Miiri. The others are AP commander Christopher Muthee, Anti-Terror Police Unit boss Nicholas Kimanzi, CID chief Musa Yego, police county commander Charles Wambugu, OCPD Benjamin Ong’ombe, station commander Charles Ayaro and subcounty AP boss John Cheruiyot Sawe.
