February 5th 2016: Heavily armed Kenya Defence Forces troops crossed into the South of Somalia in a bid to boost the military offensive mounted against the Al Shabaab militants in the country.
The troops are a fresh deployment into the war torn Somalia and were deployed with Humvees and modern armored tanks and other state-of-the-art equipment.
The fresh contingent has been deployed barely a few days since Somali media outlets reported a withdrawal of the Kenyan troops from Gedo and Juba area.
Military intelligence has however termed the alleged withdrawal as a strategic move to place the troops at an advantage over the militants in terms of terrain and combat operation logistics.
Kenya has vowed to intensify the fight against the al Shabaab militants by all means necessary according to the message of Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta he said that the troops would stay put in Somalia, would receive better equipment garnering support from countries in Africa like Nigeria and Somalia herself.
