The Somalia based Harakat Shabaab Mujahideen (HSM) movement issued a threat over the ongoing Kenyan border wall.
The Al-Qaeda (AQ) branch in Somalia in an audio released by the militant group through their pro-websites and radio warn that the terrorist group will send its fighters to defend Beled Hawo citing the current border dispute in the Gedo’s town.
In the audio, the group’s spokesman Ali Dheere threatened to send its fighters to be part of the border ‘defence’.
Al-Shabaab has easily been crossing over the porous border near Mandera and Beled Hawo town and conducting attacks in the frontier counties.
Kenya to bar this infiltration by Al-Shabaab began the construction of the 700kms border wall with Somalia.
Beled Hawo has seen three weeks of violent protests against the KDF forces who recently started the construction of the security wall. Kenya emphasizes that the security wall is aimed to avert intrusion by the Al-Qaeda linked fighters into Kenya from the Gedo region.
KDF patrol units and army-FOB scouts to remain vigilant to avert and preempt any possible attack along the border following the latest threats by the militants.
