Harakat Shabaab, the Al-Qaeda branch in Somalia has intensified its campaigns targeting government and AMISOM troops in Somalia.
Following several defeats by SNA and AMISO troops in the recent past weeks whereby the Islamists terrorist group has more than 70 of its fighters, in retaliatory campaigns, Harakat Shabaab Mujahideen (HSM) last week Friday killed several Burundi soldiers in attack SNA camp in Afgoye.
Sunday 4, March 2018, the group fired several mortar rounds targeting at military base belong to African Union Mission in Somalia AMISOM in Lower Shabelle region.
Corresponding reports in Lanta-Buro locality confirmed that they woke up to heavy mortar shelling at AMISOM camp by Al-Shabaab from nearby Sunday morning.
AMISOM forces were reported to have responded to the attack with similar mortars against Al-Shabaab and successfully repulsing the attack.
Overwhelmed militants escape some leaving behind powerful gunships which were seized by AMISOM soldiers.
