Unknown gunmen abducted at least 20 Ugandans in the northwestern district of Yumbe which borders South Sudan.
Security reports indicate that the raid incident took place on Monday night at round 2.00 a.m. local time sparking fear to the villagers.
Search of the kidnapped people is currently underway though the kidnapper’s whereabouts remains unknown.
Uganda security officials fear possibility of the abducted people taken to South Sudan.
According to Lt Andrew Kandiho, the District Internal Security Officer (DISO), joint operation with South Sudan operatives is on to ensure the abducted people are freed.
Lt Kandiho also added that the gunmen had earlier conducted another raid and stole herd of goats and foodstuff.
Uganda is engaging intelligence networks at the borders and South Sudan government to make sure the search/rescue operation is successful.
Rebels in South Sudan have been involved in a number of kidnaps as attacks continue to escalate. More than 200 kidnapped including 54 children in the first two months reported.
