On March 27, 2015, the Shebaab brides were arrested at El Wak border point in Mandera County.
10th December 2015, Four ‘Jihadi Brides’ previously arrested for being members of al Qaeda affiliates in East Africa charged with extra charge of conspiracy to commit a terrorism act.
The four women had been charged with being members of a terrorism organization which were expedited to conspiring to commit an act of terrorism on Kenyan soil.
29th January 2016, the four brides charged afresh with counts of plot to carry our terrorist attack in Kenya.
The four women dubbed jihadi brides (Shebaab brides) are believed to have Al Shabaab domestic linkages that the militants use to recruit both men and women to serve in the jihadi war as well as coordinating with al Shabaab sympathizers in Kenya.
SUMMARY
The four suspects identified as Ms Ummulkheir Sadri Abdalla, Ms Khadija Abubakar Abdulkadir, Ms Maryam Said Aboud and Ms Halima Adan denied the charges of having link with the Somali based jihadist group, the Al Shabaab.
According to the prosecutor the suspects and some foreigners outside the country, together with Ms Abdalla, a Tanzanian, collaborated to carry out terrorist attacks in the country.
The ‘Shebaab brides’ denied the fresh charges and the Magistrate directed that the women be remanded at Shimo la Tewa Maximum Security Prison.
The case will be heard on March 9 and 10, 2016.
Kenya has stringent judicial measures to ensure that suspects stand a fair trial and at the same time ensuring that they are not allowed back in the society in the event they are found guilty to advance their violent extremist agenda.
