FBI has reportedly made approximately 100 arrests of domestic terrorists in the United States in the period between October 2018 and June 2019. The report was given by FBI Director Christopher Wray in a move that has seen quite a steep upsurge in surge arrests as compared to previous years.
Most of the arrests have been charged with crimes that are related in some way to white supremacy. White supremacists groups in the US have been threatening national security in a significant way heightening the threat of domestic terrorism.
In the US, intelligence reports have indicated that since the beginning of the Trump Administration, the cases of white supremacy-motivated attack plots have been on the rise. Moreover, the white-supremacist ideologies have been on the rise since Trump took office.
The highest-profile act of violence perpetrated by a white supremacist over the last few years occurred at a 2017 white-nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Va., where one of the male rally-goers murdered one counter-protesters and injured dozens of others by mowing them down with his car. The man has received several life sentences for his crimes.
The report comes at a time when globally, countries are starting to designate white supremacists’ groups and Neo-Nazis as terror organization seeing as there has been a spike in such terror acts that have been conducted by the groups that are racially motivated. White supremacy ideologies have in the past motivated the horrid murders and massacres of non-white and as such in the current volatile age of terrorism, nations have taken the necessary step to ensure such domestic terrorists are
